In India a large proportion of the population lives in villages.  Despite the influence of the city a village continues to be vibrant in its own way and catches the eye of the artist. This is because such people look for quietude and simplicity in life which is closer to the heart than city life. A variety of day to day activities in their non-complicated style attract many. Distances are small, requirements few. One has time for everything.  This gives a chance for traditionality associated with many activities to continue which an artist likes. A few scenes from the daily life of a village have been brought in the following paintings. A marriage, a worship ritual, winnowing, the village well, labourers at work, mehendi are some of the typically village activities where no one is in a hurry.
