Hanuman is among the animals personifying gods or godlike beings with magical powers. He is the son of vayu, the wind god and the monkey nymph Anjana. He is one of the principle characters of the famous epic Ramayana and great devotee of Lord Rama. In folk traditions Hanuman is worshipped as a deity  or divine agent with magical powers who has the ability to conquer evil spirits and to  protect his worshippers against them. He is also worshipped  as fertility god.
